I was interested in getting this Viola so that my children can explore and experiment with different instruments and we can take some lessons to see if they really have a strong connection with any of them. We already had several instruments in the house including guitars, piano, clarinet and trumpet so we just wanted to have something to add to the collection we already have. This is a great beginners instrument and I think this is a great way to get into an instrument at a pretty affordable price point. For me, It is a better option to buy this beginners instrument that to rent one at the local music shop. For us, the one time investment is about the same as what we would have paid to rent an instrument for one school year. While this may not be as high a quality of instrument, If the instrument gets lost or damaged, you aren't on the hook for a $500+ to replace that instrument. The Viola itself looks really nice and the adjustments are adequate for the beginner. The case makes it very easy especially for younger students to carry this instrument with them. The different handles and straps gives you a lot of versatility. The strings and bow are good enough to get going but you may need to replace/upgrade these, I would follow the recommendation of the teacher that will have much better knowledge and experience.Like my analogy in the title, this instrument is will be able to let you learn to play, but if you get more advanced or more serious you'll probably want to upgrade to a higher quality instrument. Like cars, tools, or even sports equipment, there is going to be a large range of quality and precision that you can choose to spend your money on based on what your needs and wants are. Not everyone needs the hundred thousand dollar sportscar or the three hundred dollar tennis racquet but they are there for those that want it. Same does with instruments and while I believe that as you progress, you will know when you need a higher quality instrument. In our house we went through this progression with the piano where we started with just a electronic keyboard. We slowly progressed and upgraded the instrument as the skill and ability increased. I didn't feel justified in spending the thousands of dollars on a piano that no one played but once there was a definite skill and desire there, it then made sense to spend the money on it. Like the keyboard we started with, the viola is now here for the kids to explore and try.

I had a friend who's been playing violin for years take a look at this because I'm a novice and was having trouble tuning it despite watching multiple YouTube videos and using a digital tuner. He said it's a good starter instrument but from what he can tell, it seems that it's been strung with 2 of the same strings and was therefore impossible to tune. It was probably an accidental oversight in production, and I seem to be the only one who experienced it so I don't see it as a much of a problem for other buyers, but it is worth stating. Overall, it is a nice beginner instrument and I look forward to learning on it.I hope this info was useful.

When you first receive this instrument, expect some issues to arrive, First off, the G string and the D string were misplaced. Second of all, the tuner doesn't have an option for a viola, the closest thing you can get is the violin setting. But take it to your local music store and they will have (most of) the issues fixed.

Is cute and cheap and is defective. Is for a elementary school child and I would like to have paid 169 dollars for something that works. Is very upsetting. I think they make them a dime a dozen and the quality is so poor. A piece of metal that screws on a piece of plastic is damaged and not holding so it wil not stay tuned. The piece that holds the tension is threaded. Horrible.

This is a good quality beginner viola. It comes in a sturdy case that will keep the instrument safe. The case has a front pocket to hold extras (phone for example). The viola is kept safe inside and there is even Velcro to hold it down. There is a handle and shoulder strap. The viola is well-made and looks beautiful. The outside of the viola has a beautiful shine. The bow, of course, is included. The instrument has strings on it so it is ready to go. I like the sound the viola makes. It comes with a tuner as well. This is a lovely instrument that is great for student or someone who is taking lessons. This is a good quality viola that has a lovely appearance and pretty sound.
