I ordered the 15.5 inch viola because my 16 inch viola is too big for me, and a 15 inch is too small. It came well-packaged. It sounds pleasant , it’s easy to tune and there is minimal peg slipping with tuning; I didn’t need peg paste.Aesthetically, it’s a student instrument, with very shiny varnish, which is a bit much for me, but that’s just personal preference.Violas are generally expensive instruments, this is basically the best deal you’re going to get for a nice sounding viola!

During shipping, my bridge fell. Not a big deal, within 10 minutes I was set up to play. The sound post was properly placed and stayed in place during shipping. The bridge itself needs a little finishing. It seems to be tall by about a half mm in relation to the proper height of the strings. While not perfect, completely serviceable. The sound surprised me. I was expecting a lot less responsiveness and projection. It is very bright and clear. The G string chokes a little, which seems common in lots of violas. The projection of the C string is a pleasant surprise. I`ve played instruments in the past where I had to fight the C string... not pleasant. Overall the instrument gets high marks for sound.Aesthetically, there are some blemishes where it seems stain or debris fell in the path of the spray. Not a big deal, but noticed. The major con is the bow. Tensioned, the stick is completely straight, the hair falls with 1/2" space between hair and stick when lax. I will be replacing it soon, as fighting a loose bow is extremely unpleasant.

Seemed like a great deal. I was very worried because my 5th grader just started strings this year and I know NOTHING about music. I was concerned her teacher would say it was junk. He was suprised we got it off the internet and not from local music store. Came with everything a staring student would need.

I bought this for my son and he loves it. This is a great viola for someone who is starting to play. The sound, quality, and feel of the viola is great. We will definitely look into another Cecilio brand as he becomes more advanced. We are very satisfied with this purchase. Also, all the items got here on time and in perfect condition.

My daughter's Christmas present. She took orchestra last year and after renting for school year decided she wanted her own. She loves it! Good student instrument. Sound is nice too. She easily tuned it after opening it Christmas day and has been in tune ever since, even after a 2 hour car ride in trunk on blistery cold December temps. Very pleased.

I will say this. The school orchestra recommended not to buy an instrument from Amazon. I went through all the reviews watched videos and decided I was going to give it a try. I mean if I didn't like it Amazon has a great return policy right. Well at first looks it does look like a good instrument. Having never bought a new string instrument, I did accidentally crack the rosen while trying to figure out why the Viola had no sound and why the rosen wasn't going on the string. Some sandpaper (not sure if that's correct) gently across the top of the rosen allowed it to glide onto the string and we had a beautiful sounding instrument. I do have an ear for music. No this is not going to sound like a thousand dollar Viola but here we are over a year later and my daughter uses it every week. She is also the lead violist in her orchestra. That should say something about this instrument. For a beginner, I absolutely recommended this product.

I tend to read the1 star reviews and then don't pull the trigger! Bought it for my child and they love it! Everything was as stated. They started including a card explaining the reason for the unvarnished area, how to use the Rosin, etc. Most of those reviews seem to be from people who haven't played the Viola before. Get the instrument first before buying a shoulder rest. They learn strumming first so they don't need one till a few weeks in...

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality an tone, the fine tuner knobs are a bug plus and the wood finger board make playing much nicer.
