Almost daily I am producing content for either the web or contracted work. I use my Lume Cube for all of it and I LOVE it. Just 6 days short of my 1 year warranty expiring, it stopped working. I called customer service and without question or hesitation Travis advised me to send an email with my explanation so that an RMA number would be generated. In les than 24 hours I had a email with a shipping label. Within a week I had a whole new box with ALL the light comes with even though I had only sent back the cube itself. I am in continued contact with Lume Cube as I build my business and plan to have more of their products and use them for years to come.

This light is indeed very bright. Packaging was not very customer friendly and no instructions were provided how to remove the cube from its shipping base. The cardboard covering the bottom of the base had to be peeled away from the base to expose the screw that is removed from the base of the cube. The area where the cardboard was glued remains very sticky. The cube works very well and I strongly recommend it to photographers needing a very portable light source.

This little gadget has a real feel of quality, i have just barely used it since i really don't use flash on my phone cam much. I like all of the options and i like it being detached to get light exactly where you want it. maybe it will allow me to be more artsy with my photos. The primary reason this appealed to me is that the thick leather case (I have what's called a phallet - a wallet that holds my phone) reflects the light at the flash which really washes out my pics when i used flash with case on and i am way too lazy to take my phone out of case to take a photo!!

I downgraded from 3 stars in my initial review from some time ago to 1 star now.Reason: Lume Cubes are not as reliable as they need to be.When on location, everybody wants to be able to count on their equipment. I do low budget mobile film making with minimal equipment (my niche) But when clients are around, visual composition, sound, light, basic directing directing and so on can get a lot, espically when you are a 1 person team like me. I had 4 Lume Cubes, one of them blew in mid-take. Another one started to overheat after a while, to a point that it is untouchable.I did not use them much. So no wear and tear. But that makes at 4 cubes 50%, which stopped working properly after a short time. Other issues: Magnets for filters only stick properly to also two "houses", fall off from the others.Colored closure screws were replaced by plastic, instead of metal.I really wanted to love these. First I thought, their light output was impressive, though battery-power time is not very long. On the plus side: They are tiny.Bottom line: They are not the little indestructible, sturdy pocket size tanks, I thought they would be. They are fine, as long as they are functioning. But they have quite a high flop rate.I am using Neewer dimmable LED panels now, when inside.

Lume Cubes are great, don't get me wrong. They are very bright and have a decent battery life. However, they claim to be waterproof to 100ft. I would not bring them any deeper than 3ft. I have had 2 fail on me underwater. I RMA'd the first one and they replaced it for free with a new one, however the replacement came with a crappy back cover made of plastic instead of metal. The plastic has deformed with use and limits how tightly I can screw the back cap on. Furthermore, they claim that the new iterations have better waterproofing, I am very unwilling to risk another $80 in testing that claim out. I now have 2 cubes, a new one with a metal cap and an older one with a crappy plastic cap. I will continue to use them as photography lights, but would not bring them anywhere near water ever again. This is quite a shame though, because it would open up so many new possibilities for underwate photography. :/To summarize,Pros:Good light outputGood battery lifeCons:Nowhere near as waterproof as claimedIffy QC between production runsNeutral:App could be better but wireless control is a godsend

Over time I have purchased three Lume Cubes. My most recent purchase was for diving with a GoPro. Unfortunately there appears to be a design floor with the switch. While the light is waterproof to 100’ if you don’t turn it on before you submerge the light won’t turn on - presumably because of the water pressure. Conversely if you turn it on before you submerge it stays on but you can’t change the intensity or turn it off. Also a note on my previous purchases - one leaked and got washed out and the other one the battery won’t hold a charge after being unused for some time.....as far as I can tell the battery is not replaceable and you have to buy a new Lume Cube. Bottom line - the Lume Cube is a relatively inexpensive lighting option but when it comes to diving it appears you get what you pay for!

I was able to replace 2 of my dive lights that were lower Lumens, and still have more lumens with just this one light. For scuba diving, the Light is kind of heavy. I have two lights attached to my camera rig and it changes my buoyancy enough to actually notice a difference.. But not too bad. I'm giving this a 5 star be cause of its simplicity of use and how bright it is even in water.

What an amazing piece of kit.The 10 stages of brightness help you find the right level for your subject.Absolutely no flicker when filming slo mo on my iPhone or GoPro at 240 fps.Can not recommend enough.

Recomendable

The optical sensor (slave) is not flash-exclusive. It will respond to all sudden changes in Ambient light (like passing your hand in front of the sensor). This can be a problem when trying to mix light sources. Additionally, the sensor is on the same face as the light, which means sometimes it will not see trigger flashes. If successors feature longer battery life, I will definitely order another. The colour temperature claims to be between 56-6000K. I do not have a temperature meter but it looks cooler compared to other daylight sources.
