Made SOLID for those uncooperative potatoes!The shamrock-looking design makes me wish I baked because it looks like it would leave a really cool design. This thing is sturdy!!! Who did they over-engineer this for?!? Just as a test, because I abhor flimsy tools of any kind, kitchen tools included, I tried to separate the handle from the masher…. It’s possible, but not on accident. I laid into this thing to get it to come apart (a.k.a. “break”). The masher seems to be super glued into the handle, not friction fit like I wondered. If it comes apart, get some super glue but unless the adhesive fatigues from heat in the dishwasher IT AIN’T COMING APART! Even after separating the handle and masher intentionally, mine works fine and will no doubt see years of use. Small adults could literally support their body weight before the handle would pull out and even then it supports compression well. I’m impressed! You’re not breaking this thing unless you try.About the only thing the manufacturer could have done to make this masher stronger would be to: weld, mechanically fasten, or backfill the handle with epoxy. Handles potatoes easily and it’s not a bad choice to repel home invaders either, it would seriously be up to the task!!! Store handle up after washing to drain handle.

I instruct my husband every time to NOT put my vintage masher in the dishwasher (50/50 on that)! The old one doesn't have loads of give so it's big time manual labor.This one however (dishwasher safe) has some give and movement at the base where you mash, with a unique design to make the job easier.For the price and functionality, I say yes!
