This product worked well on my saltwater chlorinator. I have a Circupool SJ 45. I had some trouble finding a bucket that might fit the Cell and I ended up using a small plastic trashcan that I had sitting around unused. Just make sure that you measure the water and use the right proportion of acid to water as described on the back. Basically you’ll need to use half of the container to do one cleaning.

This is fairly expensive for a salt cell cleaning chemical compared to the standard diluted muriatic acid soak called out by most salt cell manufacturers. The instructions specify 1 lb/3 gallons, which means you can only use this bottle two times, or 1-2 seasons depending on how much you have to clean your cell.I docked a star for the specific reason that they almost entirely fail to specify what chemical is incorporated into this powder. Also, the images of the product in this listing are all the same, with a different stock photo in the background and maybe some generic text. They never show the back of the bottle at all. This is a bit suspicious but increasingly common for AI-generated listings I guess. If you look closely you'll see sulfamic acid listed once in the warning section on the back. This is less toxic/corrosive than muriatic acid, and is commonly incorporated into descaling solutions like Lime-A-Way. It works to remove salt cell scale, but more slowly. Also, the powder is stable indefinitely but once mixed in water the solution starts to break down. This means that you cant mix 1 lb/3 gallons and then seal and store the solution. Once mixed, you have to use it and discard the remainder.I have gone through a fair number of salt cells over the last ten years, and I have reached the conclusion that excessive muriatic acid soaking to remove scale is the main reason for their degradation. At the core of each salt cell is a set of titanium plates coated with a thin layer of precious metals (ruthenium+iridium). From talking with various pool professionals, I think that the diluted muriatic acid is excessively harsh and gradually removes the precious metal layer, resulting in a salt cell that stops reporting salt levels accurately and eventually stops generating chlorine. They all recommended a long duration soak in distilled water or a shorter soak in acetic acid (cleaning vinegar like you can find in hardware stores) followed by brushing or spraying the plates with a hose. This, along with maintaining proper pH and pool chemistry to reduce scale, has worked for me to extend the life of my cells. This product works as described, and I think it is gentler on salt cells than muriatic. However, unless you create smaller quantities of solution by scaling the recipe, this is not very cost effective.

Used this on my salt cell this spring to clean it. Much safer than use HCL to clean the cell. Cleanup was easy.

It's sometimes hard to tell just how well products like this work. I got a message from the pool controller that the salt cell needed to be cleaned. Looked up on the internet how to do it, and ordered this product. I am new to the pool game, so I am not 100% sure how the cell plates are supposed to look when they are new, or dirty, or clean. I put the cell in a bucket, and poured the solution into it. After letting it soak for about 30 minutes I took it out and reconnected the cell. The message to clean the cell went away, and the salt cell is producing chlorine at what seems to be proper, according to the settings in the controller. Seems like it worked, and that is what we want our products to do, right?Nice job.

Recently acquired this MAV AquaDoc Salt Cell Cleaner. I tried and was happy with some of the other AquaDoc products in the past so thought I would give their salt cell cleaner a try.Our Solaxx cell doesn't need to be fully submersed when cleaning. It came with a cap that goes on one end allowing you to pour your acidic cleaner into the other end. So the instructions that talk about preparing three whole gallons of cleaner were of little use to me. It takes about a quart and a half of liquid to fill our cell so I used a single oz by weight of the cleaner crystals to my 1.5 qts of water.Cleaning went well and our cell looks to be operating normally.I liked that I didn't have to go looking for muriatic acid at the store and then having to worry about safely storing it.Some strangeness on the label are statements like "use entire bag in one application." Well, there's two pounds in this container (not a bag) and if I stuck to the directions, I'd have six gallons of acidic cleaner to deal with - way more than the quart and a half that I actually need. So, I only used a little of the AquaDoc Salt Cell Cleaner crystals to prepare my cell for the season and expect to have enough on hand to last until we sell this house and move.

I used to clean my salt water cell with watered down muriatic acid, but that gets expensive since I also need that to balance the pool water. This stuff works just as well, although the directions have you let it sit for 15-30 minutes, which is a bit longer than muriatic acid (10 minutes or so.) A big caveat: the instructions say to dissolve half the bottle in about 3 gallons of water and submerge the unit. This is very wasteful, but might be necessary for certain modules. If you have a module that can screw into one of those plastic mounts that allows you to fill the inside of the cell with cleaner, then you can merely use about 2 oz of this stuff to about 3-4 cups of water. That's what I did and it worked very well. I will get maybe 8-10 cleanings this way instead of 2.
